Frequently Asked Questions: General Knowledge Base

What should I do if it seems like my service isn't working?
Computer and internet systems are relatively complicated. It is very unlikely that your broadband internet or internet phone service has stopped working. At installation, the broadband connection is working between you computer and our network works and is unlikely to change. Outages due to changes or problems on our network are rare. However, since your broadband service is new to you or unknown, you may be suspicious. The vast majority of service inconsistencies are caused by routers and/or PC setup. Please unplug and replug in your router to reset it, wait a few minutes and see if that helps your problem. If that doesn't help, make sure your wires haven't been disconnected accidentally. If not, there are many more possible causes that have nothing to do with our service, but are a bit more complicated to check. For example, the internet browser settings may have changed. Please contact us for assistance, we will be glad to help you out.

What does "always on" mean?
"Always on" means you have a dedicated connection from your computer to the Internet. With LP Broadband service, you never have to dial in to get access to the Internet. This means no more waiting for a successful connection, and no more busy signals.

How do I verify the speed of my high-speed Internet connection?
There are many factors that determine your overall Internet speed. Many of those factors are beyond LP Broadband's (or any other provider's) control. This is the reason we specify our speeds as "up to 2 Mb", for example. LP Broadband has a huge Internet capacity so we can confidently ensure you receive the performance we promise as our customer base grows. We use very sophisticated tools to carefully monitor and control your performance within our network. However, as soon as you leave our local area and venture out into the Internet and World Wide Web, many other factors affect your response times that have nothing to do with LP Broadband's service. For example, if you visit a very complex video web site on the other side of the world, which is only running a small, underpowered web server, you will probably see relatively slower response times that if you visit, say Yahoo or MSN. This difference has nothing to do with LP Broadband's service. Another important factor is the number of steps it takes to get from you to the site you're visiting - the more "hops", the slower your response time since each hop is another server handling your request. If you would like to test your speeds, a reliable testing program can be found at www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ .

Can I easily upgrade my service?
Yes, it is as easy as a phone call to your local LP Broadband office at 970-372-2824 or email at info@lpbroadband.net. LP Broadband can offer special performance packages as well.

I'm moving, how do I transfer my service?
If you move, we cannot guarantee we can deliver service. If you contact us we can check to see if service is available at your new location. If service is available, we only charge $49 for installation. As with your initial installation, we connect to your PC or router and you will be responsible for connecting to additional PCs, etc.

Why wireless and not DSL, satellite or cable?
LP Broadband is focused on bringing high-speed Internet access to areas that cannot get cable or DSL as well as areas that are currently serviced by cable and/or DSL. Broadband service is extremely competitive with cable and DSL services, particularly when you look at "the fine print" of installation costs, rental fees, and service contracts. Satellite internet service is prone to the elements and often is not as reliable as another infrastructure, plus it costs significantly more.

Can I use VPN to connect to my office network?
Yes, LP Broadband supports VPN access for our Speed Plus, Power Surfer, and Business Services. Please check with your company's network security person to confirm your configuration and to complete your set up.

How can I ensure my computer is prepared for a high-speed, "always on" Internet connection?
The best answer is "Best Practices" - it pays to keep your computer up to date. Best Practices
